IM Division professional achievements & awards include the following:

  • Hyundai Motor Eminent Scholar Award
  • IM Division FIU Business Emerging Scholar Award
  • IM Division AmorePacific Outstanding Educator Award
  • IM Division Outstanding Service to the Global Community Award

Winners of the above professional awards are nominated by the IM Division Professional Awards Committee and approved by the IM Division Executive Committee. Winners are honored at the IM Division’s business meeting at the AOM annual meeting.

IM Division Hyundai Motor Eminent Scholar Award
The IM Division recognizes lifetime achievement in international management scholarship with the IM Division Eminent Scholar Award. 

IM Division FIU Business Emerging Scholar Award
The IM Division FIU Business Emerging Scholar Award recognizes the contribution to international management scholarship by a junior scholar. 

Eligibility Criteria

    • Candidates must be nominated by others; no self-nominations are considered.
    • Nominees must have an interest in, and have contributed to, international management scholarship.
    • Nominees must have completed their Ph.D. (or equivalent) within the previous eight years, at the time of nomination.
    • Nominees must be members of the IM Division.

Selection Criteria
Candidates are evaluated based on the following criteria:

    • Significant impact on research pertaining to international management (as described in the domain of the IM Division).
    • Outstanding research productivity, as shown, for example, by number of publications, publications in top journals, number of citations, and research awards received.
    • Research independence, as shown, for example, by being the sole or leading author in published research or joint papers that include only junior scholars.

Nomination and Evaluation Process

    • Nomination letters should be e-mailed to the Professional Awards Committee Chair (email address could be found here: https://im.aom.org/about/committees/prof-achievement), with a subject heading “IM Division FIU Business Emerging Scholar Award”,  before April 1. 
    • Nomination letters (maximum of three pages) should provide a persuasive explanation of how the nominee meets the eligibility and selection criteria. The nominee’s curriculum vitae should be appended to the letter.
    • The IM Division Professional Awards Committee will review all nominations and may select a winner. In keeping with the highest standards, a winner may not be selected every year.

 

IM Division AmorePacific Outstanding Educator Award
The IM Division AmorePacific Outstanding Educator Award recognizes continuous excellence and innovation in teaching international management, at all levels and in a global context.

Eligibility Criteria

    • Candidates must be nominated by others; no self-nominations are considered.
    • Nominees must have an interest in, and have made substantial contributions to, international management education.
    • Nominees must have at least 15 years of teaching experience in the area of international management.
    • Nominees must be members of the IM Division.


Selection Criteria 
Candidates are evaluated based on the following criteria:

    • Outstanding performance in teaching international management over a long period of time
    • An important impact on international management pedagogy as shown, e.g., by innovations in teaching methods and materials that have subsequently been widely adopted by others
    • Significant involvement in the training of other outstanding teachers
    • Advancing the development of outstanding scholars and the scholarship of others in the area of international management
    • Major contributions to the global dissemination of international management knowledge.

IM Division Outstanding Service to the Global Community Award

The IM Division Outstanding Service to the Global Community Award recognizes continuous excellence in serving the international community. While the IM Division provides opportunities to serve the global community, this is not an award for service to our division. Rather, the award scope is sufficiently broad to recognize service made via many organizations, including international institutions, governments, and/or non-governmental organizations. The award favors longstanding service, but impactful service in a concentrated period of time will also be considered. 

Eligibility Criteria

    • Candidates must be nominated by others; no self-nominations are considered.
    • Nominees must have at least five years of service to the international community.
    • Nominees must be members of the IM Division.


Selection Criteria
Candidates are evaluated based on the following criteria:

    • Demonstrated outstanding service to the international community, over a long period of time – may also have more intensive and impactful service over a shorter period of time
    • Had an important impact on the service of others by developing an organization or platform for global service.

    IM Division research paper awards include the following:

    IM Division CEIBS Best Paper Award

    The IM Division CEIBS Best Paper Award is presented to the best scholarly paper of the IM Division at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting. This award is sponsored by China European International Business School (CEIBS), China. All papers accepted by the IM Division for presentation at the Academy of Management annual meeting are eligible for the award. All papers that are finalists for other IM Division paper awards are also considered for the CEIBS Best Paper Award.

    IM Division HKUST Best Paper in Global Strategy Award

    The IM Division HKUST Best Paper in Global Strategy Award is presented to the best scholarly paper of the IM Division focusing on Global Strategy at the Academy of Management annual meeting. All papers with a research focus on Global Strategy accepted by the IM Division for presentation at the Academy of Management annual meeting are eligible. The IM Division Program Chair selects a set of 4-5 finalists, and the IM Division Research Committee selects the winning paper through a blind review of these shortlisted papers.

    IM Division Best Paper in OB / HRM / OT Award

    The IM Division Best Paper in OB / HRM / OT Award is presented to the best scholarly paper of the IM Division focusing on Organizational Behavior / Human Resource Management / Organization Theory at the Academy of Management annual meeting. All papers with a research focus on Organizational Behavior / Human Resource Management / Organization Theory accepted by the IM Division for presentation at the Academy of Management annual meeting are eligible for the award. The IM Division Program Chair selects a set of 4-5 finalists, and the IM Division Research Committee selects the winning paper through a blind review of these shortlisted papers.

    IM Division GWU-CIBER Best Paper on Emerging Markets Award

    The IM Division Best Paper on Emerging Markets Award is presented to the best scholarly paper of the IM Division focusing on Emerging Markets at the Academy of Management annual meeting. This award is sponsored by the George Washington University, USA’s Center for International Business Education and Research (GW-CIBER). All papers with a research focus on Emerging Markets accepted by the IM Division for presentation at the Academy of Management annual meeting are eligible for the award. The IM Division Program Chair selects a set of 4-5 finalists, and the IM Division Research Committee selects the winning paper through a blind review of these shortlisted papers.

    IM Division Best Paper in Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability Award

    IM Division Best Paper in Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability Award is presented to the best scholarly paper of the IM Division focusing on Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability at the Academy of Management annual meeting. All papers with a research focus on Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability accepted by the IM Division for presentation at the Academy of Management annual meeting are eligible for the award. The IM Division Program Chair selects a set of 4-5 finalists, and the IM Division Research Committee selects the winning paper through a blind review of these shortlisted papers.

    IM Division Best Paper in International Corporate Governance Award

    It presents the IM Division Best Paper in International Corporate Governance Award to the best scholarly paper of the IM Division focusing on international corporate governance issues at the Academy of Management annual meeting. All papers with a research focus on corporate governance accepted by the IM Division for presentation at the Academy of Management annual meeting are eligible for the award. The IM Division Program Chair selects a set of 4-5 finalists, and the IM Division Research Committee selects the winning paper through a blind review of these shortlisted papers.

    IM Division UofSC-Douglas Nigh Best Paper in Multidisciplinary Research Award

    The IM Division UofSC-Douglas Nigh Best Paper in Multidisciplinary Research Award is presented to the best division paper that employs an interdisciplinary perspective and is authored by junior scholars. This award was instituted in memory of the late Dr. Douglas Nigh (University of South Carolina) who was passionate about both cross-disciplinary research and development of junior scholars. The award is supported by the Doug Nigh Award Endowment Fund. All papers adopting an interdisciplinary perspective and authored/co-authored by only junior scholars accepted by the IM Division for presentation at the Academy of Management annual meeting are eligible for the award. The IM Division Program Chair selects a set of 4-5 finalists, and the IM Division Research Committee selects the winning paper through a blind review of these shortlisted papers.     IM Division Georgetown Best Paper in International Business and Policy Award

    The IM Division Georgetown Best Paper in International Business and Policy Award is presented to the best scholarly paper of the IM Division that has strong policy implications in the international context at the Academy of Management annual meeting. All papers with a research focus on International Business and Policy accepted by the IM Division for presentation at the Academy of Management annual meeting are eligible for the award. The IM Division Program Chair selects a set of 4-5 finalists, and the IM Division Research Committee selects the winning paper through a blind review of these shortlisted papers

    IM Division D’Amore-McKim School of Business, Northeastern University Award for the Best Dissertation in International Management

    The IM Division D’Amore-McKim School of Business, Northeastern University Award for the Best Dissertation in International Management, is presented to the best dissertation submitted to the International Management Division. 

    Eligibility Criteria
      • The award competition is open to all Ph.D. and D.B.A. students who have successfully completed their dissertations during the 2021 calendar year.
      • Dissertations submitted to other competitions are eligible.
      • All applicants must be members of the IM Division.
      • The dissertations must contribute to basic or applied knowledge on topics within the domain statement of the IM Division.
    Domain Statement:
    The International Management Division focuses on research in management and organization theory, research, and practice with a cross-border or cross-cultural dimension. Major topics include: the international competitiveness of firms, industries, and nations; the cross-border management of operations, including multi-country, multi-unit strategy formulation, and implementation; evolving organizational forms and management practices in cross-border business; the cross-border differential impact of cultural, social, economic, technological, political, and institutional forces on strategies, organizational forms, and management practices; and comparative management studies involving two or more countries.

    Submission Guidelines
      • Submit electronically a 10-page, double-spaced abstract, with margins of one inch (2.54 cm) on every side and in no smaller than 12-point font. This abstract should include a description of the dissertation’s objective, theoretical foundations, relation to prior research, methodology, findings, limitations, and contributions to the field of international management. Reference lists are not included within the 10-page limit, but all other texts, figures, tables, or illustrations are included.
      • Submit the abstract in PDF format so that there is no author identification information.
      • Within the body of the submission e-mail, but not the abstract file, please indicate the university you graduated from, your dissertation chair(s), and your month and year of graduation.
      • Please write “AOM IM Division Best Dissertation Award Abstract” as the subject header.
      • Submit your abstract via e-mail to the Best Dissertation Award Committee Chair at vorad@newpaltz.edu.
      • Submission deadline for abstracts is January 31, 2022.
    Evaluation Process
      • The IM Division Best Dissertation Award Committee will conduct the first round of reviews of the abstract submissions and select three to five finalists based on the quality of their abstracts.
      • The finalists will then submit their full dissertations for further review and selection.
    Obligations for Finalists
    Being selected as a finalist is an honor. Finalists are required to present their dissertations at a specially designed session during the 2022 AOM Annual Meeting in Seattle. Please submit your abstracts only if you agree to this requirement, and agree to be present at the division’s Business Meeting where the winner is announced.

    Nominations for a future Executive Committee Member of the IM Division

    The Executive Committee (EC) of the International Management (IM) Division is soliciting nominees year round to stand for election as the future member of the Executive Committee.
    The Executive Committee is elected by the Division membership at large, and EC members are elected for a period of five years – progressing through the following positions: IM Division PDW Chair, IM Division Program Chair, IM Division Chair-Elect, IM Division Chair, and Immediate-past IM Division Chair.

    Eligibility Criteria:
      • Nominees must have an interest in, and have contributed to, international management scholarship.
      • Nominees must be members of the IM Division.

    Nomination Process:
      • Candidates may be self-nominated or nominated by others.
      • Nominations will be solicited via the AOM nomination site. Look for notifications sent out early in the calendar year, with nominations due before March 1.
    Selection Process:
      • The IM Division EC will review the nominees and put forward two qualified candidates for election by the membership of the Division.
      • Elections will take place during April-May.
      • The candidate who receives the largest number of votes will become the new member of the EC, and will join the EC immediately after the Academy of Management Annual Meeting the same year.
      • The elected EC member will be announced and introduced to the membership at the IM Division business meeting at the AOM Annual Meeting the same year.
