Amy Hillman, Jim Fredrickson and I invite you to submit proposals for a very different type of AoM session. It will be a "visual reception" format designed to showcase research or teaching tools in the spirit of Mason's contributions. For details, see the call below.
Even if you don't submit, we hope to see you at the session.

Building on Mason Carpenter's Contributions
AoM PDW Call for Submissions!
Mason Carpenter (1961-2011) was an exemplary colleague on all fronts. He was a prolific researcher in topics such as corporate governance, top management teams, strategic management of global firms and global startups. He was an outstanding teacher, developing the BPS Strategy Teaching Toolkit, co-authoring a leading textbook, and winning teaching awards. Finally, he was a great colleague serving in the Academy of Management, Strategic Management Society, and in numerous editorial roles.
A different kind of session: Visual reception
This session allows us to reflect on Mason's contributions and, more importantly, to show how our field will build on them. Because he was so unique, we propose a distinct format. It will be a reception combined with visual (poster) session of work that builds on Mason's. We do not envision a somber occasion – rather, it will be a celebration of new work that highlights how Mason continues to contribute.
The visual presentations will highlight both research and teaching. First, we offer the opportunity to present a research paper that draws on Mason's intellect, advice, and mentorship. In addition, for those who have been inspired by his teaching tools, we offer the opportunity to present new experiential learning tools. These learning tools will be compiled and added to Mason's Teaching Toolkit online.
Format for Visual Presentations
We are still working out some details about how to display the presentations. However, we expect that presentations will be either pinned to a bulletin board, taped to a wall, or on an easel. Either way it will be important to design the display so that people can read it from a distance. It should give the viewer a basic idea of the contribution rather than trying to cover it in a comprehensive manner – the intent is to encourage people to request more information.
Proposal Submissions Due by 6/15/12
The session will take place on Friday 8/3/12 from 3:30-5:30 in Hynes Convention Center Room 206. While the session itself will be an open reception, we need to have a sense of who will be presenting as well. Proposals are just an abstract of the presentation and must be submitted by June 15th at the following web page: <Submission Web Page>.
We will provide additional details about the final presentations as we find out more about the room setup; however, they will resemble the format used at past AoM conferences.
We look forward to your participation in the celebration!
