• 1. Corporate governance indexes

I am looking for measures of the strength of shareholder protections found in various countries.

The most widely used measure is the La Porta et al index. Given the likelihood that corporate governance regulation has changed since the LLSV measure was published (1998-1999), I am looking for an update of this measure or an alternative index.

I would appreciate any suggestions regarding alternative or updated measures.

China's securities index provider announced plans to launch a new index that rates corporate governance in China-listed companies.

The new index, launched at the Shanghai Stock Exchange on 1st. January 2008, is aimed at encouraging publicly traded mainland companies to improve governance practices. It will institute criteria for evaluating corporate governance.

This is particularly useful in that I have a PhD student interested in examining the links between corporate governance and foreign entry mode in China. I will forward the information to him.
