    Colleagues:

I am seeking recent empirical studies focusing on the relationship
between national/regional cultural differences and effective
leadership behavior in work organizations. I know that GLOBE has made
a useful contribution here, but wish to find out what else is out
there. Any and all suggestions are welcome, either published or in
working paper form. Comparative studies are preferred. Thanks.

Rick, I have group of collaborators working in a global project, Preferred Leader Behaviour Across Cultures, that has been going on since 1997. It is mostly self-funded by researchers so development has been a bit slow. We're at a stage where we can publish some comparisons across 8 or 10 countries using the Leader Behaviour Description Questionnaire XII and the Schwartz Values Survey individual value dimensions, hopefully in 2010.

    Rick,

I recently published a piece on the cultural enactment of charisma, precisely atempting to complement the "charisma rules" revelation by Globe. I contend that while the latter is true, the enactment of charisma differs across cultures and that enactment is what people respond to more readily than not. Please see link to the last number of Thunderbird Intl Business Review:

    http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/123205098/abstract?CRETRY=1&SRETRY=0

Also, see the incipient piece of research distributed by HBR, linked  in my signature, below.

It would seem that Latins root for different cartoon characters than most Anglophones, suggesting that multinationals headquartered where Coyote rooters are a majority might do better in thinking twice when choosing apointees to lead people where the majority of the followers might root for the Road Runner.

    Hope this helps.

    Best,
    Alfredo
