SESSION TITLE: Trust Your Instincts - A Neuroscience-Based Approach to Transforming Organizational Performance

Presenter: Kathy Kolbe, Chair, Kolbe Corp.

Presenter: John F Regni, Lt. Gen USAF (ret); Aerospace and Defense Initiative, SFAz

This PDW leverages neuroscientific research into the psychological construct of conative instinct as an application of volition in improving workplace performance. Independent university researchers in partnership with Kolbe Corp conducted an interdisciplinary study, supporting the veracity of conation as a third dimension of mind. Balancing all three dimensions of mind - cognitive, affective, and conative – can yield higher performance as measured by productivity and efficiency. Embracing this holistic approach to unleashing human potential, talent, and spirit within organizations can enhance commitment and engagement, thereby reducing stress, tension, and workplace burnout. Participants will learn about the implications of this new research for organizational effectiveness and transformation, leadership development, learning, and talent management, particularly in cross-cultural contexts. Differences and similarities between conative instinct and intuition will be discussed in creating purposeful action. Case studies will be presented to highlight transcultural examples of the nature and influence of conation in commercial and governmental organizations, reinforcing how 21st century organizations can become more synergistic as complex, adaptive systems. Attendees will engage in interactive learning that yields new pracademic insights, helping to inform current and future scholarship and management education that can lead to greater organizational viability and sustainability. This session is open to everyone. However, the first 75 attendees to pre-register will have the opportunity of taking a free ipsative assessment (Kolbe A™ Index) that will reveal their own conative modus operandi. Results will be handed out during the session.

Pre-registration is required for this workshop. To accommodate more attendees, this session is being held twice on Friday August 12th, once at 8am (session #12145), and then repeated again at 4:15pm (session #18196). Please preregister for one session only. To register online, please visit https://secure.aomonline.org/PDWReg. The deadline to register online is August 10, 2011.
