One of the more recent competitive advantages of global corporations lies in their ability to shape the minds and actions of
their employees to ensure successful performance. Furthermore, countries, societies and States who welcome and integrate
the internationally mobile individual want to promote institutional and societal openness and open-mindedness to be
attractive for expatriates. Scholarly contributions in the literature suggest that the concept of global mindset represents an
important competitive tool for today's managers, whereas cultural identity, cultural intelligence, intercultural competence,
cosmopolitanism etc. appear as likewise important for global leadership. Interestingly, the definitions and approaches offered
by various scholars on cultural identity, cultural intelligence as well as a global mindset are not similar nor mature despite
the often identical words used. Concepts of intercultural competence and cosmopolitanism add to the complexities and
multiple senses. Our advances in scholarship are somewhat confused by the multiplicity of approaches and concept
definitions, lacking harmony for theory development as well as empirical field study design. Therefore we suggest
continuously confronting various schools of thought, provoking reflection and intellectual challenge in a particularly
interactive format.
This PDW wants to challenge the academic management community to be more coherent and cooperating for opening existing and novel ideas on cultural
identity, cosmopolitanism, intercultural competence, global mindset & leadership. We expect open thinking, joint reflections, discussions and creativity that
consider also more applied views including pedagogical as well as management practitioners' perspectives. For a smooth preparation and functioning of this
workshop we kindly request pre-registration.
