Sense of Duty: The Meaning behind the Words
Monday, August 4, from 9:45am-11:15am at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel, Adams Room.
Sponsor(s): (OB, SIM)
We invite you to participate in our scholarly panel symposium, entitled "Sense of Duty: The Meaning behind the Words." What is "duty" and what is its role in organizational culture? How does its meaning differ between individuals and organizations of varying missions? How does one communicate and instill a "sense of duty" in individuals and institutions in a world where personal interaction is often through digitized means? In this panel, we will discuss what a sense of duty means, how it emerges, how it affects behaviors and decisions, but also how it is conveyed. Our goal is for all participants to leave the symposium with a new research agenda, exploratory ideas, and a network of enthusiastic scholars and practitioners, ultimately leading to cross-functional research that allows for a better understanding of sense of duty and its implications for individuals, organizations, and societies.
