Hi, all!
If, like me, you are trying to teach your students to see things from
the perspectives of other cultures, you might be interested in a new
book by a young Indian scholar, Harsh Verma, called "The Avatar Way of
Leadership." In it, Harsh analyzes three mythological figures, two male
and one female, in the traditional epic stories of the "Ramayana" and
"Mahabarata," drawing out their characteristics and behaviors, and then
giving examples of modern Indians who exhibit the same forms of
leadership. You can read a review of the book at
http://newsinsight.net/columns/full_column23.html, or purchase it from
http://www.exoticindiaart.com/book/details/IDF329/.
My interest in the book is that, having been born and grown up in India
(my parents were American expats), I am thrilled to see scholarly work
on leadership that is grounded in the traditions of that culture. Also,
Harsh is a valued professional colleague and friend.
