Four Methodological Approaches to Measuring Culture as Knowledge
Friday, Aug 3 2012 10:15AM - 1:15PM at Sheraton Boston Hotel in Liberty Ballroom A
We would like to invite researchers studying culture at any level of analysis (organizational, disciplinary, institutional, national, etc.) to participate in a PDW on how to study cultural knowledge at this year's Academy of Management Meeting in Boston.
Recent scholarship is conceptualizing culture as dynamic and heterogeneously distributed collective knowledge. To advance this work, we have organized a PDW to introduce participants to four different methodologies for measuring culture as knowledge: content analysis, cultural consensus model analysis, ethnography and priming. We will introduce each methodology, discuss when and how to use them, and how to use them together. Finally, we will hold discussion groups to help participants develop ways of testing research ideas by using one or more of these methodologies.
Preregistration is encouraged to help in arranging breakout sessions to be most helpful.
