Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the following posts in the Department of Management Studies at the University of the <st1:place w:st="on">West Indies</st1:place>, Cave Hill Campus:
Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer in International Business (2 posts)
Applicants should have a doctoral degree in a relevant area. Candidates should be able to deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in one of the following areas:
International Accounting and Finance
International Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources Management
International Marketing and Entrepreneurship
International Management Information and Internet Based Commerce
Candidates will be expected to participate actively in research projects, and to assist with management training in <st1:country-region w:st="on">Barbados</st1:country-region> and the <st1:place w:st="on">Eastern Caribbean</st1:place>.

THE DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES
The Department of Management studies at the Cave Hill Campus is a young, dynamic and growing Department. It was established in May 1973, out of the former unit of Administration and Accounting, Departments of Management Studies are also located at the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">St. Augustine</st1:city></st1:place> and Mona Campuses of the University, and the three Departments work closely together. The Department is the growth centre of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the attractiveness of its offering has resulted in the development of joint-degree programmes with other departments in the Faculty, as well as with Faculties of Humanities and Science and Technology.
UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMMES
The Department offers three B.Sc. Degree programmes - Accounting, Management Studies and Public Sector Management. The Department offers, jointly with the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Barbados</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">Community college</st1:placetype></st1:place> (BCC), an undergraduate degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management. The Departments aim is to provide students, in all programmes, the opportunity to develop analytical, computational and problem-solving and decision-making skills, as well as an understanding of the importance of human resources in a business and management context. Throughout our programmes, we seek to explore the reality of business and management in <st1:place w:st="on">Eastern Caribbean</st1:place> organizations, functioning in a global environment. We incorporate a variety of pedagogical methods into our courses to ensure effective learning and integration of these varied concerns.
Accounting
The Accounting programme includes courses in all areas of general accounting. The courses are designed to sharpen students analytical skills and to awaken curiosity for further study in Accounting. For those students who wish to study for professional accounting qualifications, the metropolitan Accounting bodies, in agreement with the Department, offer subject for subject exemptions.
Management Studies
Management Studies include the B.Sc. (Management) Degree and the first year of the B.Sc. (Hotel Management) Degree. These courses are concerned largely with developing managerial skills for organisations in both the private and public sector. A particular emphasis in management is the application of management concepts to the <st1:place w:st="on">Caribbean</st1:place> environment, and competitiveness in the global context.
Public Sector Management
The Public Sector Management programme provides management education and training for persons who work or are interested in working in the Public Sector. This academic programme develops students abilities in the context of in-service requirements of the Public Sector.
Tourism/Hospitality Management
The joint programme with the Barbados Community College (BCC) allows students to complete the Associate Degree at the BCC, and spend two additional years at the University of the <st1:place w:st="on">West Indies</st1:place>. The purpose of this programme is to prepare students to function effectively in this critical sector of <st1:place w:st="on">Caribbean</st1:place> economies.
GRADUATE PROGRAMMES
The Departments current focus is on the development of taught Masters programmes. The Department currently offers an M.Sc in Project Management and Evaluation, and an M.Sc in International Management. Over the coming years the Department will be evaluating the feasibility of broadening these offerings. Members of the faculty also teaching graduate courses for the Executive Masters in Business Administration, offered by the Centre for Management Development, and there are opportunities for faculty to engage in graduate training by working with graduate students enrolled in research degrees.
RESEARCH & PUBLICATIONS
The University places a great deal of emphasis on research, and expects faculty members to be actively engaged in research, and that publications in good refereed journals will reflect this. There are many opportunities for management research in the region, and the Department, Faculty, and University actively support and encourage this research, as well as research with a broader reach. The Departments current emphasis is on developing a strong research culture and increasing its research output. Over the past few years Departmental faculty have received several research grants, and have been engaged in a wide array of research projects - ranging from organizational justice, to the social responsibility of Corporate Directors and social accounting, to the impact of culture on effective management.
