    The Department of Management at The University of Tennessee Knoxville College of Business is recruiting for two positions in Strategic Management, to begin August 2007. One position has a focus on international research/teaching. Required and desired qualifications are listed at the end of this announcement.

    The <st1:placetype w:st="on">College</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Business Administration</st1:placename>'s MBA program was ranked #66 in the nation in the 2007 <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">U.S.</st1:country-region></st1:place> News and World Report rankings. In addition to the regular MBA program, the college is known for its innovative executive programs, which rank #32 among all U.S. schools with executive MBA programs and #56 worldwide by the 2005 Financial Times. Modern Physician magazine ranked our Physician Executive MBA program #1 in 2004 among U.S. MBA programs for physician executives, and our recently launched Aerospace MBA is uniquely positioned to reach aerospace professionals.

    Faculty in the Department of Management are actively involved in these MBA programs as well as in the undergraduate program which graduates over 700 students annually and offers opportunities to lead study abroad programs.

    College administration and strategy faculty are in the planning stages of re-activating the Strategy Ph.D. program in the fall of 2007. Recruited faculty would play an active a role in this doctoral program.

    Construction is underway to renovate and expand our business building complex. The new $40 million six-story structure will include state-of-the-art classrooms and offices. Estimated completion is Spring, 2008.

     

    The metropolitan <st1:city w:st="on">Knoxville</st1:city> area was recently ranked the "best place to live in the <st1:country-region w:st="on">United States</st1:country-region> and <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">Canada</st1:country-region></st1:place>" among cities with a population of fewer than 1 million ("Places Rated Almanac" published by IDG Books Worldwide). Metro <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Knoxville</st1:city></st1:place>, with some of the lowest living costs in the nation, was awarded 3rd place in Salary.com's national poll of affordability (6/2006). The beautiful <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Smoky</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">Mountains</st1:placetype></st1:place> are only a 40-mile drive from campus.

     

    Further Details on the Two Positions:

    Description:  Two full-time, tenurable faculty positions to further the broad-based activities in the Management Department and the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placetype w:st="on">College</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Business</st1:placename></st1:place>. Teaching opportunities in innovative undergraduate, MBA, executive MBA, executive education, and international programs in strategic management and related fields. We seek colleagues with potential for excellent research and teaching to enhance our existing strength.

    Required Qualifications:  Ph.D. in Strategic Management or closely allied field from an AACSB or equivalent accredited university. Several years experience in university academic environment. Six years minimum experience and appropriate research record required for appointment as an Associate Professor. Scholarly activity and publication commensurate with experience.

    Desired Qualifications:  Experienced Assistant or Associate positions. One position has an emphasis on organization theory and an appreciation for qualitative methods. The other position has a focus on international research/teaching.
