    Hi there,

I would like to draw your attention to our IMD-sponsored PDW on Scientific Mindfulness at the 2013 Academy of Management Meetings:

Conducting Impactful Cross-Cultural Research: A Workshop on Scientific Mindfulness

    Program Session #22

    Friday, August 9, 8-10am

WDW Yacht and Beach Club Resort, Cape Cod B

In this workshop, researchers will learn how to conduct impactful research by being scientifically mindful. Scientific mindfulness is a holistic, cross-disciplinary, contextual, and reflexive approach to research, teaching, and practice using multiple perspectives with the intent to contribute to the betterment of society. Thus, scientifically mindful researchers seek multiple perspectives from different stakeholders (e.g., employees and employers) and different disciplines (e.g., biology and anthropology). After a brief introduction to scientific mindfulness, attendees will participate in three facilitated roundtable discussions. During the first roundtable, participants will jointly identify the stakeholders in their research. Next, as a demonstration of how other disciplines can contribute to cross-cultural research, a biologist will present relevant insights from his field. During the second roundtable, participants will discuss how the presentation may inform their projects. During the third roundtable, participants will discuss how contextual factors may affect their research. To conclude the workshop, one of the organizers will summarize the roundtable results. Our aim is for participants to leave the workshop with an enriched view of their research topics.

The facilitators in the workshop include: Iris Berdrow (Bentley U., USA), Nakiye Boyacigiller (Sabanci U., Turkey), Joerg Dietz (U. of Lausanne, Switzerland), Karsten Jonsen (IMD, Switzerland), Sonja Sackmann (U. Bundeswehr, Germany) and  Markus Vodosek (German Graduate School of Management and Law, Germany). Special guest: Fred Ledley, Professor of Natural and Applied Sciences and Professor of Management at Bentley University. Fred is director of Bentley's Center for Integration of Science and Industry and member, director and chairman of the National Biomedical Research Foundation.
