Lecturer / Senior Lecturer
(Assistant / Associate Professor)
in International Business
Surrey Business School (SBS) is an internationally recognised centre for management research and teaching. We are accredited by AACSB (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) and by AMBA (the Association of MBAs). With a strong Senior Management Team led by its newly appointed Dean, Professor Ansgar Richter, we are ambitious in building a world-class interdisciplinary business school where innovative thinking is accelerated into action. Our particular strengths are in digital innovation and technological transformation, leadership and organizational psychology, sustainability and corporate governance. Based in Guildford just outside of London, the University of Surrey is an outstanding international University with an enterprising spirit.
Surrey Business School is a mid-sized business school with over 110 academic staff members from around the globe, and a highly cohesive and collegial atmosphere. We are growing strongly, both in terms of our size, and in terms of the quality and impact of our work. Specifically, we put a heavy emphasis on research excellence. Our faculty regularly publish their research in top journals such as AMJ, AMR, SMJ, JIBS, Management Science, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, ETP, Organisation Studies, Human Relations, Research Policy, and in other leading journals in their fields of expertise. Our colleagues have joined us from prestigious universities and business schools worldwide, with recent appointments including individuals who earned their PhD at institutions such as Harvard, MIT, Chicago, LSE, and elsewhere.
We run a full range of programmes including undergraduate, postgraduate and MBA programmes, as well as a PhD programme. Our programmes are renowned for their quality in terms of intellectual rigor, student experience, and employability. As a School, we are becoming increasingly active in executive education (both open-enrolment and tailor-made programmes). Through our Business Insights Lab, we work closely with companies and other stakeholders. In particular, we have strong links with many technology-oriented start-ups and established firms in London, Surrey, and the South-East of England in general. The Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship has core research strengths in entrepreneurship, organisation, international business, and strategy. Our research increasingly considers the links between international strategy, innovation and entrepreneurship, and we are looking to expand this area. The Department is a healthy mix of research active faculty and practitioner teaching fellows, the latter bringing a wealth of business experience. The Department has grown strongly in recent years, and will continue to do so in future, with further appointments already in plan. We thus seek to appoint two Lecturers (Assistant Professors) / Senior Lecturers (Associate Professors) in International Business to join our team. Candidates from adjacent subject areas are welcome to apply.
We are looking for strongly research-active academics. Lecturers should show clear evidence of their capacity to publish research on international business in top-tier journals. Senior Lecturers are expected to have a track record of publications in these journals, and a full pipeline of papers going forward. You would also contribute to developing the research agenda of the Department, and participate in grant applications and cooperation with companies and other external stakeholders. In your teaching, you are expected to emphasise the quality of the student experience. We will ensure that your teaching load is such as to provide you with sufficient time for research. There will be ample opportunities for you to become active in business engagement and executive education.
These are full-time positions. Conditions and compensation will be at internationally competitive standards and be commensurate with the appointees' experience.
Several faculty members, including the Dean and the Deputy Dean, will attend the upcoming Academy of Management Conference, and will be happy to have informal conversations with potential candidates at the conference (or alternatively via Skype). If you are interested in learning more about these positions, please contact the Head of Department and Deputy Dean, Professor Andy Adcroft (a.adcroft@surrey.ac.uk).
To submit a formal application, please go to http://jobs.surrey.ac.uk/032217-R. The application deadline is 27th August, 2017.
