    What do academics specializing in the auto industry think about the auto crisis in Detroit?

    You are cordially invited to the following PDW to find out and share your thoughts too. (Please see below and further details in the attached file.)

    TIME & LOCATION: Saturday, Aug 8 2009, 3:00PM – 6:00PM at Hyatt Regency Chicago in Horner

    SPONSORS: Business Policy & Strategy Division (BPS), International Management Division (IM), and Research Methods Division (RM)

    ABSTRACT: This workshop brings together a diverse body of perspectives to debate the root causes of the crisis facing the Detroit automakers. By creating an opportunity for discussion of the relevant business-policy issues in the context of a deep awareness of the industry, the workshop aims to help generate creative, yet realistic, responses to the crisis. The workshop also seeks to provide a forum for academic mentoring on industry studies. As a whole, the workshop will showcase some of the work of the International Motor Vehicle Program (www.IMVPnet.org) and its members.

    Scheduled presentations by auto industry researchers include:

    John Paul MacDuffie (Wharton School)

    Susan Helper (Case Western University)

    Anja Schulze (ETH Zürich)

    Sandra Rothenberg and James Winebrake (Rochester Institute of Technology)

    Shinya Orihashi (Tohoku Gakuin University / The University of Tokyo)
