How will the ongoing negotiations on the TransAtlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) or the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) impact firm strategy? How is firm strategy shaped by the thousands of other international agreements, partnerships, organizations, and standards on trade, investment, health, food safety, labor markets, scientific knowledge, taxation, etc.?

This PDW addresses how firms respond to the challenges and opportunities presented by global governance – the management of transnational issues through voluntary international cooperation by state and non-state actors. Examining the different types of global institutions, panelists in this PDW present interdisciplinary insight on how firms interact with the global institutional environment. An interactive round-table session will address -

Part 1 - Current state of the art on global governance

What is global governance? Who governs the globe?
Is global governance effective? Where has it been the most/least successful?
How do international institutions influence the strategies of firms?

Part 2 - Where do we go next in the study of global governance?

What are the important unanswered research questions on global governance and firm strategy? Which theoretical approaches and methods are best suited for the study of these topics?

    Part 3 - Q&A

Interactive session with panelists and open discussion
