    Dear Colleagues,

    IVBEC (Oct. 25-27, 2018, NYC)
    https://ivbec.weebly.com

    Special Session on

    Behavioral Experiments in Business Ethics

    Session organizer:
Sven Horak, St. John's University, New York, USA

Matthias Uhl, Technical University of Munich (TUM), Munich, Germany

Gari Walkowitz, Technical University of Munich (TUM), Munich, Germany

Experimental approaches in the social sciences have spread over the last decades from a predominant application in psychology to economics and business studies. Yet, their empirical application in the field of business ethics is rather new. Business ethics has been traditionally concerned with normative questions of how actors in business should behave ("ought"). The emerging field of behavioral business ethics explores how individuals actually behave ("is"). A profound understanding of human behavioral patterns and their underlying principles is crucial to identify the feasible sub-set of morally desirable solutions. The special session intends to bring scholars together to discuss state-of-the-art experimental research on individual, situational, and organizational factors systematically influencing ethical behavior in business. At the outset of the special session, research papers are presented and discussed. Following the session, we intend to organize a panel discussion on the value and the limitations of empirical research for business ethics. The session organizers also plan to initiate a special issue on the theme "Behavioral Experiments in Business Ethics". Participants with accepted submission will be informed about new developments.

    Dear Colleagues,

I'd like to share the following Call for Papers:

25th Annual International Vincentian Business Ethics Conference (IVBEC)

Hosted by the Center for Global Business Stewardship at the Peter J. Tobin College of Business, St. John's University, DePaul University and Niagara University

    25th October - 27th October 2018

Conference Venue: New York Marriott Downtown, NYC

    Paper Abstracts/Proposals due April 1st, 2018

The Center for Global Business Stewardship at the Peter J. Tobin College of Business, St. John's University invites proposals for the 2018 International Vincentian Business Ethics Conference (IVBEC) to be held in New York City's Marriott Downtown in October. This conference attracts leading academics to examine, discuss and develop the role of business ethics and sustainability in economic, political, corporate and social life today.  Please visit our website for more conference details and a link to the Call for Papers with specific submission guidelines at: IVBEC 2018 (if link does not open, please type the following into your browser: https://ivbec.weebly.com).

The theme of the IVBEC 2018 conference, People, Planet, Progress: Business Ethics for a Global Society, addresses topics in all areas of business and professional ethics, with a focus on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) developed by the United Nations in 2015. Keynote addresses by UN and business leaders, panel sessions, academic paper sessions, and editor-led paper development workshops will be used to spur discussion amongst conference participants on ethics and sustainability in business. The conference will feature work that highlights the progress made in achieving global development goals and the challenges that remain in institutionalizing them.

Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of IVBEC is a great opportunity to take stock of our progress, and to look to the future for innovative solutions to business and society's most pressing sustainability dilemmas. We encourage proposals from academics, business professionals and young scholars that relate to the role that ethical business plays in the implementation and integration of the SDGs in the organizational ethos, and that move us toward a better understanding of targets, measurement and ethical adjustment in our policies and processes.  Given this special celebration, the conference will feature two important special sessions: (1) its first-ever Business Ethics Editors' Panel Workshop run as a paper development workshop to help researchers understand how to best get their business ethics research published; and, (2) a Behavioral Experiments in Business Ethics Session, organized by a team of leading researchers in this area.  Submitting to this session would be handled the same as submitting to the conference more generally but should mention in the abstract that it is a submission for consideration at the Behavioral Experiments in Business Ethics

We hope that this opportunity to bring together scholars and practitioners from a variety of disciplines in a forum for discussion about the critical business ethics challenges we all face will motivate collaboration between the education and business sectors needed to model responsible leadership with positive social impact.
