The Past, Present and Future of International Business and Management
    The Past, Present and Future

    Program Session #: 367 | Submission: 11894 | Sponsor(s): (IM, AAM, IAM)
Scheduled: Saturday, Aug 7 2010 5:00PM - 7:30PM at Le Centre Sheraton in Salon C

This highly interactive workshop focuses on the questions of theory and methodology that have characterized IB/IM research in the past and what the potential is for the future as the field is faced by new and more complex phenomena. Using a series of "roundtables" led by leading and rising IB/IM scholars of various generations the goal of the session is to bring to the fore the hard questions that we have avoided and those that will define the field going forward. The session is organized around papers in the forthcoming volume of the Advances in International Management series (Emerald) of the same title and presents a great opportunity for informed debate about the field. The session will be structured around 7 themes: (1) Emerging Markets, (2) People, Systems and Organizations, (3) Culture, (5) Foreignness/Distance, (5) Civil Society, (6) Knowledge/Innovation and (7) Internationalization.

You will get an opportunity to be part of a focused discussion around the themes with the contributing authors plus a more general discussion of the field.  This session and a prior one at the AIB conference in Rio will influence the future of the AIM series and also open up opportunities for involvement with future volumes being planned.

Attached is a brochure outlining the materials in the book and many of the authors involved (some of whom have been listed in the AOM program).

I hope to see you there ....
