CALL FOR MANUSCRIPTS
Fostering Publication from Around the World in Leading Organization and Strategy Journals
BPS Global Representatives’ PDW
Academy of Management, Philadelphia, USA
Submission Deadline: March 31, 2014
Description:
Around the world we find researchers engaged in exciting, innovative, and relevant research projects. Unfortunately many of these geographically diverse researchers face significant obstacles that prevent them from publishing in leading, high-impact journals and reaching a broad audience for their research. In many cases, English is not their native language; they are typically not trained in US or US-style institutions; their research approach may be unorthodox; and they may lack guidance during the arduous process of revision and resubmission. As a result, researchers from many countries around the world are under-represented in the leading journals in our field.
This PDW is targeted to scholars from under-represented countries who seek successful publication of their research in top journals. The PDW has a very practical, hands-on orientation. Prior to the workshop, each participant will be asked to send his/her best non- published manuscript to the organizers, who will then forward the piece to a group of facilitators who are all scholars with successful publication experience. During the event, a panel of editors will share insights that they have gained through handling manuscripts originating in different countries and discuss such issues as the way to frame research projects for publication, the distinct requirements of different outlets, how to overcome language difficulties, etc. There will also be a ‘global scholars panel’ in which scholars from other parts of the world share their successes and challenges, and provide their own experiences with the review process. In the final session, registered participants will receive feedback from facilitators on their individual manuscripts along with suggestions on how they can reach successful publication. Throughout the PDW, ongoing dialogue will address different types of articles (quantitative, qualitative, purely theoretical, etc.) and take into consideration the research traditions of scholars from different parts of the world.
Editors’ Panel:
Mary Benner (University of Minnesota), Associate Editor, Administrative Science Quarterly
Alfonso Gambardella (Bocconi), Co-Editor, Strategic Management Journal
Dovev Lavie (Israel Institute of Technology), Associate Editor, Academy of Management Journal
Todd Zenger (Washington University in St. Louis), Senior Editor, Strategy Science
Global Scholars’ Panel:
Sergio Lazzarini (Insper)
Ishtiaq Mahmood (IMD/NUS), Area Editor, Journal of International Business Studies
Glenn Rowe (Ivey School of Business)
Haibin Yang (City University of Hong Kong)
David Zoogah (Morgan State University)
In order to encourage participation from under-represented segments of the academic community, the BPS Division will offer need-based financial support of up to $250 per person to up to five scholars. Financial support will be offered on the basis of: (a) quality and promise of the manuscripts, and (b) demonstrated need; both to be determined solely at the discretion of the BPS Division. Financially needy scholars who are admitted to the PDW are encouraged to seek additional funding for travel from other sources. The PDW organizers will be happy to arrange recommendation letters, should they be needed to secure external funds.
Interested candidates are requested to send (a) a current CV and (b) a completed and edited manuscript that they plan to submit to a peer-reviewed, research journal. Please email these documents to Professor Allya Koesoema (
a.koesoema@unsw.edu.au) by March 31, 2014. Scholars who will be admitted to the PDW will be notified by late April.
