PDW - Teaching and Learning in Different Cultures
Program Session #: 68 |
Scheduled: Friday, Aug 7 2009 12:20PM - 3:20PM at Hyatt Regency Chicago in Comiskey
With a large number of students pursuing degrees outside of their home countries and with increasing globalization of the market for higher education, the multicultural classroom has become reality for both students and faculty members. This PDW is intended to provide participants with the opportunity to draw on the expertise of faculty members who have experience in dealing with cultural differences in an interactive manner.
After a keynote introduction and interactive exercise led by Allan Bird, participants will have the opportunity to join discussion tables focusing on either topics (eg. "Dealing with the Multicultural Classroom") or specific countries or regions (eg."China", "Japan", "India", "Latin America", "Europe"). Practical hints and tips for raising teaching and learning efficacy in the selected countries will be given by the presenters. The session will conclude with a discussion of learning styles across cultures, led by Gerhard Apfelthaler and Thomas Sshmalzer.
