Subject: reading(s) on etic frameworks and dimensions
Dear colleagues,
I am teaching Cross-cultural Management at the undergrad and graduate level and have been spending way too much class time explaining different etic frameworks and dimensions to build a basis for further discussions, case analysis etc. I find these sessions dry and tedious and would prefer to use the time for something more applied and interactive, having students read about the different frameworks in advance.
Unfortunately, so far I am having trouble finding one (or two or three) good articles or book chapters that explain different etic dimensions in some detail, but are not reduced to Hofstede and maybe GLOBE. Ideally there would be some Schwartz, Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck, Trompenaars, and Hall in the mix. My goal is to give them a wider range of frameworks and dimensions, give them a good sense of the meaning of the different dimensions, show them the variety of approaches and disciplines involved, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of the different frameworks. I would still have a critical class discussion, I just don't want to spend too much time on the input side.
Would you have any suggestions for such readings? Which texts have worked for you?
Thanks in advance,
Daniela
