    Dear friends,

    We hope that your summer has been going well and that you are ready for the AOM conference as well as our CMSC events.

    As co-organizers of the CMSC-reunion (Sat, Aug 10 @7-10pm, in WDW Swan Resort Swan 5), we would like to send you an update of the event. In the first half of the reunion (7-8:30pm), Mr. Zhang Ruimin, CEO of the Haier Group, was originally scheduled to speak to the community. Unfortunately, due to a change in his plans Mr. Zhang will not arrive until later in the evening, which will cause him to miss the event. However, we were fortunate to be able to assemble a distinguished panel within a short period of time, which we are confident will lead an equally stimulating exchange within our community.

    Accordingly, in the revised program, the first half of the reunion (7-8:30 p.m.) will constitute a panel discussion on "Bridging Management Research and Career in and Outside China." Our panelists are:

    -          Yingyi Qian (Dean, School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University)

    -          Jing Zhou (Rice University, past president of International Association of Chinese Management Research)

    -          Haiyang Li (Rice University, visiting scholar to China European International Business School)

    -          Weiru Chen (China European International Business School)

    -          Jiangyong Lu (Peking University)

    The session will be moderated by Jing Zhou.

    Topics for the panel discussion include:

    1.       Differences in management research opportunities (including fund application) in and outside China;

    2.       Differences in career development (including tenure requirement) between business schools in and outside China;

    3.       Research, teaching, and career opportunities in China for overseas Chinese scholars in management;

    4.       Overseas collaboration opportunities for management scholars in China;

    5.       What are the role(s) Chinese management scholars should play in light of China's re-emergence?

    Given the timeliness of the topic and the profound experience of the panelists both within and outside China, we are confident that the panel discussion will offer an exciting and enlightening experience to CMSC members.

    In the second half of the reunion (8:30-10:00 p.m.), we will continue our tradition of roundtable discussions related to career counseling and experience sharing. We will have 11 tables with 22 mentors, covering discussion topics such as research, teaching, dissertations, job search, tenure packages, and so on. Earlier we asked participants to register online for preferred mentors and topics. The registered participants will be prioritized to the designated tables. If you did not register earlier, you are welcome to join the tables of your interest on-site where space is available.

    The founding mentor of our community, Ming-Jer Chen, will be present throughout the event for an engaged discussion. He will also wrap up the evening to put things into perspective.

    If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact any of the co-organizers listed below. We look forward to seeing you at the CMSC-reunion this Saturday evening!

    Best,
