Industrial and Organizational Psychology
Assistant/Associate/Senior Faculty Research Scientists
The University of Maryland Center for Advanced Study of Language (CASL) is seeking faculty research scientists in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. CASL needs I/O psychologists at any level of experience to contribute to the study of work behaviors among foreign language professionals. CASL projects require I/O-related expertise in areas such as selection, training, performance appraisal, needs assessment, OD, survey development, psychometrics, and more. The successful candidate will work with multidisciplinary teams on research projects that enable government employees – especially foreign language professionals – to improve their performance. Some examples of current projects include developing measures of team and individual performance; understanding and improving work design for language analysts; understanding the impact of culture and other personal and situational factors (e.g., foreign language proficiency and high stakes situations) on abilities to perform analytic activities; and designing and validating survey measures of job performance, as well as aptitude assessments.
Appointments to CASL are as members of the research faculty of the University of Maryland under renewable three-year contracts with highly competitive salaries (12-month) and benefits.
Qualifications: Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology or related field, a strong record of research productivity and publication commensurate with experience. Superior candidates will have additional skills in job analysis, team processes, needs assessment, psychometrics and/or quantitative statistical skills. The center is seeking people who will play a leading role in the strategic direction of CASL and participate in multiple research projects in their field. Candidates' research and publications should demonstrate the ability to tackle complex, interdisciplinary research and to work collaboratively with a range of institutions and researchers.
Candidates must hold U.S. citizenship and already have, or be willing to obtain, the appropriate security clearance.
CASL, established in 2003, is the nation's 10th university-affiliated research center. Its mission is to conduct state-of-the-science research that results in improved performance on language and culture-related tasks relevant to the work of government language professionals. Our research focuses on improving knowledge of less commonly taught languages and cultures; enhancing the acquisition and maintenance of foreign language capability by government professionals; advancing the capacity to use foreign language skills in government professions; and improving the quality of human language technology.
