    Professor of Strategy

    vacancy number 09-5021

The Amsterdam Business School (ABS) has developed strongly in the past few years, has obtained Equis accreditation and aims to grow further in the coming years, particularly in the areas of marketing and strategy. The new professor will strengthen the strategy area at the senior level and thus help us to realize our ambition to become one of Europe's major schools. The appointment will be within the Strategy & Marketing section of the ABS.

The Strategy & Marketing section is involved in teaching at the undergraduate, graduate and executive levels, including the Amsterdam MBA programme. The section's research programme focuses on strategy and marketing in the broadest sense; a special feature is its cross-disciplinary attention to innovative and socially relevant international topics, most notably corporate social responsibility, sustainability and cultural entrepreneurship, in which strategy and marketing researchers cooperate.

As a whole, the programme is distinctly and deliberately interdisciplinary in nature, adopting theoretical perspectives from different disciplines, and using various research methodologies and methods. Staff members have recently published in international journals such as Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, Management International Review, California Management Review, Industrial and Corporate Change, Marketing Science, Journal of Marketing, International Journal of Research in Marketing, and Journal of Retailing.

The two full-time professors currently in the section have thematic orientations in relation to strategy (i.e. cultural industries and sustainability/CSR). A professor of marketing is currently being recruited. The new professor of strategy should have a clearly distinct profile and an established record in strategic management. For this position, we welcome applications from excellent candidates who have distinguished international research records that meet this requirement and those outlined below. The successful applicant will undertake and help coordinate research and teaching in the Strategy & Marketing section, and play a clear role in the further development of the section and the ABS as a whole.

The Strategy & Marketing section is chaired by Prof. Ans Kolk.

    Requirements

Requirements include a PhD in strategy or a closely related discipline, significant international working experience in top business schools, a proven track record of exceptional research performance, significant international publications in top academic strategy journals, editorial positions in international academic journals, leadership capacity in directing and stimulating research (including the successful supervision of PhD students), demonstrated teaching excellence, evidence of the ability to attract research funding, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability and willingness to contribute to the further development of the section and the organization as a whole.

Short-listed candidates will be invited for an academic visit and a seminar.
