    Dear Colleagues:

You are cordially invited to attend the 2009 Conference of the Eastern
Academy of Management International (EAM-I) Managing in a Global Economy
XIII to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 21 to 25 June 2009.

Management professors from around the world will be in attendance, along
with prominent Brazilian government officials and executives from industry.
The conference will include academic sessions, local speakers and site
visits to Brazilian energy company Petrobras, the Brazilian Development Bank
(BNDES), and InBev, the Brazilian brewer that purchased Anheuser-Busch in
2008 to become the largest brewer in the world. In addition, participants
will have an opportunity to experience Brazilian food and music and learn to
samba! For more details on program highlights, visit

The stunningly beautiful Rio de Janeiro is a fitting location in which to
explore the conference theme of “Management Challenges for a New World” --
it is the most vibrant city in a country that embodies the changing dynamics
of today’s world. Brazil is the largest country in South America, and its
diverse population includes descendants of Africans, Europeans and Native
Americans, and immigrants from around the world. Brazil is also the “B” of
the emerging BRIC economies that have been the focus of so much attention
around the world. It is a leader in ethanol-powered transportation, has
recently found major oil deposits off its coast, is struggling to manage the
threats and opportunities of the Amazon rainforest, and is working to
improve the economic lot of its citizens. The conference is hosted locally
by the business school (IAG) of Pontifical Catholic University of Rio (PUC-Rio).

We are putting the final touches on our detailed program schedule and will
have it available on the conference website in the coming weeks. We hope
that you will decide to join us. Current airfares and the conference hotel
rates are both very reasonable. If you wish to participate more actively,
we may also be able to include you in a facilitator role for one of the
    sessions.

For more details on the conference, and to register, please visit the
    conference website at:

I hope you are able to join us for this exciting conference, and I look
forward to seeing you in Rio!

    Sincerely,

    Kate Suchon – EAM-I 2009 Program Chair
