Apologies for cross-posting
Dear colleagues
I would like to invite you to this year's BCIB Annual Lecture at the Bradford Centre in International Business (BCIB), which will be delivered by
Jean-François Hennart (CentER and Department of Organization and Strategy, Tilburg University)
"Not so Fast! Why we should not close the book on the theory of the multinational enterprise"
In a celebrated 2002 article Peter Buckley has argued that the existence, strategy, and organization of the multinational enterprise is a topic that has been successfully tackled by international business scholars and that the field should now turn its attention to more exciting pursuits. I will argue that this declaration of victory is a bit premature, and will explain why the versions of the theory based on the OLI paradigm and on naïve versions on internalization theory contain some crucial errors, and why the newer versions based on resource or knowledge-based views are even more problematic.
