Bentley Introduces Unique Doctoral Programs in Accountancy and Business to Address Rising Demand for PhDs
Waltham, MA – Bentley, a national leader in business education, will launch its first doctoral programs in Business and Accountancy in September 2006.
The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) predicts a shortage of 1,142 business PhDs in the US by 2008. By 2013, the gap will exceed 2,400.
Addressing this growing demand for business PhDs, Bentley has designed two rigorous doctoral programs that feature:
1. flexible, personalized programs supported by a team of advisors from day one;
2. research that crosses traditional disciplines -- drawing on expertise from business and the arts and sciences;
3. access to state-of-the-art technological resources; and
4. full tuition remission ($21K) and an annual stipend for 4 years for select applicants (open to candidates of all nationalities).
The Bentley PhDs have a thematic focus on business, technology and society, drawing from Bentley's key areas of expertise. This encompasses:
· global commerce and cultures,
· ethics and social responsibility,
· business and information technology, and
· the intersection of the arts and the sciences with business.
This thematic focus will underpin both degrees. In addition, the two PhD degrees - in Business and in Accountancy - have their own unique subject core but share common methodology courses, with all students taking both quantitative and qualitative methods. Students also take four specialized courses that fit with their particular research and career interests and get the opportunity to develop teaching skills and expertise under the guidance of our designated master-teachers. The Bentley PhD programs thus combine disciplinary rigor and a broad-based curriculum. The goal is to produce a new generation of scholar-teacher-practitioners who will be eminently prepared for rewarding careers in academia, business, or both.
