You should check out the work of Amabile on creativity and
Deci on intrinsic motivation. I am attaching a paper that
looks at R&D policy re: innovative activities in firms.
    Best wishes,

    Dear Bonny -

I ran such courses in business for a number of years. My suggestion
is to buy a lot of coloured paper, scissors, balloons, pipe-cleaners,
rubber bands, paper clips, tinsel, blutac (TM, all rights recognised,
etc), glue, selotape (see previous parenthetic remark), drinking
straws, wood, coloured pens, markers, plastic offcuts, swatches of
fabric, etc etc., put your students in an empty room with the
materials and leave them to simmer for 8 hours.

Afterwards, ask them what happened. Go on from there.

    best regards
    hugh

    Dear Bonny,

I like the recent book by Frans Johansson - "The Medici Effect -
Breakthrough insights at the Intersection of Ideas, Concepts & Cultures"
(Harvard Business School Press, 2004) that looks into the process of
    creativity and innovation. One of his teachers at HBS was Teresa Amabile;
and although this book is less academic, I think the case studies in it will
    get you some interesting discussions.

    Good luck,
    Florian

    Bonnie

When I taught a course on lateral thinking skills in business at Conestoga
College in Kitchener Waterloo, Ontario Canada a number of years ago, I used
Edward de Bono's materials on lateral thinking and the CORT thinking skills
    program

Based on the weekly news and business events or key headlines in this
mornings newspaper, I made up my own lateral thinking exercises for students
every week. Ie. explore this idea or what new concepts can you think of that
    will address.....?
