    Inside International Washington
    Washington, D.C.

    December 6-8, 2006

You are invited to participate in a unique seminar on international business and public policy this December in Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C. is the quintessentially international city, with a variety of government, business, academic, multilateral, and non-profit institutions and think tanks addressing key business issues and policies that reverberate around the nation and the world. And we at the Robert H. Smith School of Business and University of Maryland have the vantage that comes with a very long association with many of these institutions, involvement in business and public policy issues at various levels, and proximity.

The "Inside International Washington" seminar is offered by the Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) at the Smith School, University of Maryland. Drawing upon our perspectives on business and public policies as well as on Washington's international resources, the seminar will provide new insights into:

    -  How the Congress and the President shape United States' trade relations abroad
    -  Implications of the Mid-Term elections for America's foreign policy
    -  Role of religion in America's foreign policy, with discussion of its place in business policy
    -  How reporting by foreign journalists shapes images of America overseas and what it means for American business
    -  What the acquisition of American companies by foreigners (remember Dubai Ports?) means for U.S. national security
    -  United States' business relationships with emerging markets through the eyes and voices of diplomats from those countries
    -  Recent developments related to intellectual property protection in emerging markets such as China and India

Seminar Presenters: Senior scholars and thought leaders from the University of Maryland and organizations and institutions such as the American Enterprise Institute, Council on Foreign Relations, Institute for International Economics, International Monetary Fund, National Defense University, U.S. Department of Commerce, Morrison & Foerster (an international law firm), Philips Electronics, and foreign embassies.

Seminar Co-sponsors: U.S. Department of Education and the Ohio State University CIBER.

Seminar Venue: Robert H. Smith School of Business, Ronald Reagan Building, Washington, D.C. Some of the sessions will be held at host organizations and institutions throughout Washington.

Registration Fee: There's a significant reduction in participation fee for faculty and students, subsidized by the Smith School CIBER.

Maximum Number of Participants: 25 (due to limitations imposed by host organizations). Therefore, if you would like to attend the seminar, please reserve your space early. The room block at the seminar hotel expires on November 17.
