The International Management Division will hold the PDW (professional
development workshop) titled “Strategies for collecting data overseas” at
the 2006 Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management in Atlanta. It will
be held on the 10th of August from 10 am to 12 pm at the Atlanta Marriott
    Marquis hotel.

The primary objectives of the PDW are to reflect on the importance of
collecting data globally, to recognize the challenges researchers
encounter in collecting international data, and how they resolve the
issues and collect meaningful data across different countries. In order
to reflect on these themes, we bring together a panel of researchers who
have significant experience in international data collection. It provides
an excellent opportunity for the participants to share their experiences
in international data collection and expand their academic network.
In the first part of the PDW, the designated speakers will address the
themes of the session and reflect on their experiences in collecting
international data. A significant portion of the PDW will be devoted to
group activities where the participants will assemble in groups of eight
along with at least one presenter with each group. The goal here is to
allow a fruitful discussion with each other by participants who are facing
challenges in their overseas data collection process or plan to collect
international data in future and want more information about it. The
presenters will act as moderators and advisors. Finally, one person from
each table will be asked to provide the highlights of their discussions.

Pre-registration is required to attend. Interested participants who are
keen on sharing and learning the experiences and challenges of
international data collection are requested to send their current CV and a
brief statement about how this PDW will help their research efforts to
