Dear Anne-Wil,
Thank you for the update on the POP. It is an excellent tool for someone who
is doing a meta-analysis. In the process of searching for relevant articles
I frequently can identify authors who publish a lot in a specific area. Once
I feel that there is a substantial chance the author may have more studies
that can be included in the meta-analysis, I use POP to locate all work
written by the author, including unpublished pieces. It takes only minutes
to look through the list of studies and usually the search returns at least
a few papers that contain data codable for the meta-analysis. The beauty of
POP is that it frequently provides links to conference presentations and
other unpublished work, which I would not be able to find otherwise.
A suggestion: It would be great if I could export references from POP to End
Note.
Thank you.
Vas

Subject: Publish or Perish: version 2 with multi-query center
****Apologies: earlier posting contained wrong URL ****
Dear all,
I thought many of you might be interested that version 2 of Publish or
Perish is now out. Publish or Perish is a software program that
retrieves and analyzes academic citations, using Google Scholar
(http://www.harzing.com/pop.htm).
Version 2 includes many usability enhancements as well a multi-query
center that allows you to save, edit, and compare queries. If you have
any user feedback on the new version, please do not hesitate to contact
me at
pop@harzing.com.
The programme should be useful for academics preparing for confirmation,
tenure, promotion or job applications. The advantages of using Google
Scholar instead of ISI Thomson data are explained in detail at:
http://www.harzing.com/pop_gs.htm
The choice for Google Scholar is particularly relevant for IB/IM
scholars as many good journals in our field are not ISI listed and hence
citations in these journals are not counted by ISI.
My website also includes two further white papers on this topic:
* Reflections on the h-index
http://www.harzing.com/pop_hindex.htm
* Reflections on norms for the h-index and related indices
http://www.harzing.com/pop_norm.htm
Finally, Publish or Perish includes a detailed help file with search
tips and additional information about the citation metrics. The help
file is now also available online:
http://www.harzing.com/pophelp/index.htm
Best wishes,
