    Dear Colleagues,

    We hope that you can join us at the Academy for a Professional Development Workshop, "Partners, Lovers, or Friends:  Unresolved Issues in Interorganizational Relationship Research."  Our PDW title refers to firms' diverse sets of relationships as they have close, long term partners, shorter term arrangements, and more arms-length exchanges. Although scholars have been researching interorganizational relationships like alliances for over 25 years, there still are many unresolved research issues. These include definitional and conceptual issues (what constitutes an "alliance"), process questions (what mechanisms do firms use to benefit from their relationships), and broader implications (how do firms manage multiple types of relationships).   Some of the richness of this field of study is due to scholars approaching these questions from different perspectives, including strategy, marketing, and economics. Therefore, our title also refers to the potential for scholars from different areas to be co-authors, potential co-authors, or interested readers.

    Our panel includes the following diverse group of esteemed scholars:

    Given their extensive expertise, particularly in the international arena, and the variety of perspectives they combine, we are looking forward to a rich discussion of interorganizational relationships.  This PDW is co-sponsored by BPS, OMT, TIM, IM, and CM divisions.
