    JOB DESCRIPTION – Academic Director, Master of International Management

     

    Position: The Master of International Management (MIM) Program is a graduate business degree program offered in the <st1:placetype w:st="on">School</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Business</st1:placename>, <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Portland</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">State</st1:placetype> <st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype></st1:place>.  The MIM Program is seeking a qualified candidate to help deliver its mission to educate aspiring professionals in international business theory and practice for strategic decision-making in a competitive, global economy. The program values are team-based learning, faculty-student interaction, relevance, integrity, responsive service to all stakeholders, and inquisitive, motivated, and accomplished participants.  The MIM Program is uniquely positioned in graduate business education to provide a comprehensive and multi-cultural experience and attract professionals from the <st1:place w:st="on">Pacific Northwest</st1:place> and far beyond.  We seek candidates with a commitment to working effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.

     

    Position Description:  Primary responsibilities are as follows:

     

    Curriculum Responsibilities

    • Teach/be the faculty member of record for MIM 579 (<st1:place w:st="on">Asia</st1:place>  Trip) and MIM 579 (Business Projects).
    • Coordinate and provide oversight on implementation of curriculum.
    • Develop revised or new course descriptions for workshops and courses as appropriate. This includes working with the Graduate Programs Administrator and other key stakeholders to design and deliver the International Business Immersion and other special programs.
    • Review course outlines and materials submitted by instructors before printing and distribution to students.
    • Identify appropriate instructors for courses/workshops, in consultation with the Association Dean of Graduate Programs.
    • Mentor instructors, ensure mid-term teaching evaluations are distributed, review teaching evaluations.
    • Work with faculty members to ensure cooperation and integration across concurrent and sequential courses.
    • Facilitate regular meetings with instructors teaching related courses.
    • Work with the Graduate Programs Administrator to provide descriptions of curriculum/courses for publication.
    • Review course grades to ensure they comply with program grading policy before submitting them to PSU's Office of Graduate Studies.
    • Plan and host the annual 3-week <st1:place w:st="on">Asia</st1:place> Field Study.
    • Coordinate the International Business Research Project course and Faculty Advisors. 
    • Recommend and implement distance-learning technology where appropriate.
    • Assist faculty with identifying and integrating guest executive speakers in their courses.
    • Maintain an average of one-day per week on-site, during class days of the MIM academic year and otherwise as appropriate. Within these office hours, time would be set aside for student advising, student/faculty conflict resolution, review of course progress and course oversight/evaluation.
    • Attend classes as an observer on a regular basis and offer advice to faculty on improving course delivery and content.
    • Work with GPO Office to ensure a quality student experience for all enrolled MIM students
    • Oversee MIM Language Curriculum and work with Chinese and Japanese language instructors to update language curriculum when needed.

     

    Program Representation

    • Function as a program advocate and spokesperson for MIM when meeting with the SBA Graduate Programs administration and Deans.
    • Serve as the academic representative at graduation and other events as appropriate including info sessions, orientation and alumni functions. 
    • Participate in admissions process, including evaluation of incoming student records as needed by the Graduate Programs Office.
    • Coordinate and engage with the MIM Advisory Board at least twice annually.
    • Meet with SBA Graduate Programs Administrator and other programs' Academic Directors as needed.
    • Meet with students and faculty periodically to ensure effective delivery of courses.
    • Represent the MIM program with the local international business community.

     

    Faculty Staffing and Support

    • Responsibility for academic staffing:  faculty recruitment, selection, and performance reviews.
    • Guide faculty on curriculum implementation. 
    • Participate in redesign of faculty evaluation forms and methods.
    • Consult with faculty on performance issues.
    • Develop method of communicating best practices and program standards.
    • Plan faculty conferences/meetings, faculty development and other pertinent programs.

     

    Qualifications

    ·         MBA degree (or equivalent) or higher.  International emphasis preferred but not required.

    ·         International business experience preferred but not required.

    ·         Five or more years of academic administrative and teaching experience desirable.

    ·         Entrepreneurial thinker with exceptional communication and leadership skills.

    ·         Exceptional project management skills and the ability to work independently.

    ·         Strong interpersonal skills (listening ability, clear communications, ability to build trust).

    ·         High level of demonstrated customer service skills.

     

    Employment

    Beginning:           July 1, 2008

     

    Appointment

     Percentage:         This is a .50 FTE 12 month appointment.
