We invite you to the following professional development workshop:
"Global connectivity as the basis for local innovation" |
Program Session #: 436 | Sponsors: IM & TIM Divisions
Scheduled: Saturday, Aug 2 2014, 3:45PM - 5:45PM at Pennsylvania Convention Center in Room 112B
The increasing dispersion of knowledge sources around the world has brought about a sea change in how multinationals organize their R&D activities. The fine slicing of global value chains and emergence of new centers of excellence, many in emerging markets, demand that firms pay close attention to the activities in knowledge clusters. To this end, the mechanisms of collaboration, such as organizational pipelines and individual social networks, are crucial factors in the process of unlocking local knowledge for global innovation. The intersection of international business, economic geography, and innovation is a rich but under-explored area of inquiry that we propose to highlight with this workshop. We bring to bear scholars from the constituent theoretical areas to present a panel and continue an inter-active discussion that will draw attention to the opportunities – and challenges – that flow from this fascinating research area.
