Dear Colleagues and friends,
Our 12th MSR (Management, Spirituality and Religion Interest Group of AOM) Retreat following the annual AOM meetings will take place Tuesday evening through Friday noon, August 5-8, 2014 at a secluded site, the Pendle Hill Center, an air-conditioned oasis about twenty miles from downtown Philadelphia, near Swarthmore College in the midst of beautiful surroundings of trees, lawns and quiet historic buildings in a peaceful atmosphere. Pendle Hill began as a Quaker study center to "train adult leaders" and continues as "a model of sustainability in a spiritual community". A mile long wood-chipped perimeter trail provides one of several pleasant opportunities for reflective walking or quiet discussion with companions. The spacious dining room with its windows frames the beautiful tree-studded campus including an art studio, a library and a greenhouse. Most foods are homemade, often vegetarian and always with vegetarian and vegan options. Part of the produce is grown on the campus, some in the greenhouse pictured in the attached pamphlet.

In 2002 at our business meeting in Denver there was a strong consensus that our work in matters of spirit requires deepening of the spiritual journey. Further, there was a common discernment that efforts in this sensitive area would be enhanced by a shared retreat where the deepening of spirit was called forth. We've had a Management and Spirituality Retreat after the AOM annual meeting each year since.
THIS year in 2014 we invite you and your friends, spouses, colleagues to join in for our 12th Retreat outside Philadelphia. (MSR membership not required).
Each Retreat has been different and ecumenical -- spiritual and spiritually related management practices from a variety of spiritual and psychological traditions and religions depending on the interests and practices of participants who, for those who wish, suggest or lead one or more activities. We've offered a mixture of silence and discussion and addressed issues of both deep personal spiritual importance to participants and methods of teaching and studying management from an MSR (Management, Spirituality and Religion Group of AOM) perspective. Friendships have been newly formed (no marriages or partnerships yet as far as we know!), old acquaintances deepened, and new teaching, research and personal practices introduced. It's been a time of deep relaxation and joy after the annual AOM meetings, for many a period to unwind after the stress and excitement of the meetings.
Because accommodations require reservations and payment, we are asking that you determine early if this spirit-filled, rest and practice opportunity is something you would like to share. Full cost for 3 nights lodging, space for retreat activities and dining and 3 meals a day, will run $375 US / person. This is an official activity of MSR potentially eligible as a reimbursable expense from your institutions or, if not reimbursed, may be potentially deductible for those who itemize taxes. We'll soon be asking registrants for their preferences for activities at the retreat and asking if you might with to lead a session, perhaps related to your own spiritual or religious traditions as well as bringing these perspectives to our teaching and research
For more information and to reserve a space contact us at rperegoy@udallas.edu or stacie.chappell@wne.edu or simply use the Registration Form following. Because of the limited space, people will be registered for the Retreat on a "first come, first served" basis upon receipt and payment.
We hope you will carefully consider this opportunity to be with colleagues from the MSR interest group as well as other interested friends in a surrounding of natural beauty to share a spirit filled three days in support of our important work on behalf of management education.
