New Book Announcement (with apologies for cross-posting)
Careers Around the World: Individual and Contextual Perspectives. (Routledge)
Jon P. Briscoe, Douglas T. Hall, and Wolfgang Mayrhofer, Editors
Careers Around the World explores the very meaning of what a career for individuals is in different countries, cultures, professions and age groups. What does career success mean for people around the world? What are key career transitions, and how are they best managed in different cultures? And how do these issues vary in different countries and regions? As those questions have not yet been investigated in the literature of careers across cultures and generations, the authors have taken an approach that led to hearing the answers directly from working people around the globe. This book presents the answers to these questions from each of seven major cultural regions of the world and the practical implications of these differences for those who manage human resources in organizations that cross national boundaries, as well as those who advise on careers. The book is designed to be a resource to scholars as well as a textbook for students in management, human resources, international management and other fields.
The publication date is August 10, 2011. Advance copies for inspection will be available at the Routledge booth at the AOM meetings in San Antonio at booths 212-216.
Exam copies and purchases are available at http://www.routledge.com and the book is available on Amazon.com as well.
