I am new to teaching international management courses and need advise on resources.  I am teaching an international management and a cross-cultural studies class and am looking for exercises, role plays, good case studies, video's, and any other ideas that will actively help the students understand. Topics such as

Culture shock – would love a good video
    Cross cultural values and ethics
    Global etiquette
    Intercultural negotiation
    Dealing with international laws
    Global strategy
    Global HR
    Organizational structure
    Etc.

Any help on resources would be really appreciated.

Have you tried You Tube. I have found a lot of short clipts there that I have used in my teaching. Great stuff.

    Hi Aaron,
I live and teach in Qatar. A couple of good case studies I use are; Kentucky fried chicken in china ( market entry), and wal mart entering Mexico.
Let me think on some more, ironically my experiences mostly come from my own culture shock!

    Hi Aron:

As I have mentioned here before, Fred Luthans and I have sought to continue to include as much current, interactive, and relevant content in the new edition of our international management text, the relevant link to which I include below.  These includes country profiles, cases, mini-cases, chapter opening stories, and in-class exercises, almost all of which are unique to this text. In addition, we have developed a video guide that ties publicly available videos (eg from YouTube or similar) to the specific chapter topics.  I am happy to provide this directly to you if you would like. I include the relevant links to the book below FYI.

    Good luck,

Sorry to reply to all but there does not seem to be an address for Aaron.

Aaron – you might be interested in my book Experiencing International Business and Management from M.E. Sharpe. Many of us find the BaFa BaFa simulation particularly good. There are lots of movies that work well. I use "Bend it Like Beckham" which my students love and have an assignment on the cross-cultural issues identified and how they are handled well or badly ... "lessons learned from the film". I am sure you will get lots of other suggestions.

    Dear Aaron,

I would hope most people on this listserve already know this, but it may help to reiterate that there are IM teaching resources posted on the IMD website. In addition, the Academy of International Business has an extensive list of teaching resources regarding simulations, exercises, etc. that I have found very helpful.  Several resources regarding negotiation (not just cross-cultural) are available at: http://negotiationexercises.com/.  In addition to those resources, there are good video clips from current and older movies that can help to show cross-cultural communication issues (for example, I use a clip from Gung Ho to show culture shock).  Good luck!

    Best regards,

    Hello, Aaron,

You may want to look at www.culturescrossing.com for cross-cultural negotiation simulations. The third edition of the China simulation is now available.

I can give you, your students, and other faculty members immediate visitor access to an international-business gaming simulation involved about 200 students from different countries who participant in the game over the Internet. You can observe their activities, and see how the global economy develops. If, after observing, you want your students to join in the game, that also can be arranged.

A demo version of the game is available through a link on my Web site, as given below. The demo version is not live. It's not the same as visitor access to the live game. For that you have to reply directly to me.

I also could use collaborators on game-based research. The game generates molecular data on the effects of culture and national policies on the success of firms, among other issues.

    Best,
