Got Global Mobility on your Mind?
Academic careers are increasingly global. This means that many of us are either already engaged in, or at least thinking about, some form of global activity – be it working outside of our 'home' countries on a long or short term basis, or pursuing international research projects. If you've got global mobility on your mind, come along to our PDW 'Managing International Mobility in Your Academic Career' A Multiple Stakeholder Perspective'.When: Saturday 4th of August, 10.15 am-12.15pm Where: The Boston Park Plaza, Beacon Hill Room.

Drawing on the experiences of an expert panel and an expanding empirical evidence base, this PDW explores the advantages and challenges of international mobility as a mechanism for professional and personal development. Adopting a multiple stakeholder perspective, we will explore strategies for maximizing the value and minimizing the risks of international mobility and collaboration, including: · Navigating the international job marketplace – effectively managing diverse recruitment and selection processes
· Maximizing the benefits of and creating opportunities for an international career
· Maximizing the benefits for all family members - particularly dual career couples
· Making the most of institutional support mechanisms such as assistance with grant applications, finding accommodation, dealing with host country tax and employment systems
· Managing and building relationships with colleagues in the new home country and elsewhere
· The short term and long term implications of international mobility for your career and personal life
Our panel of international experts have all been directly involved in international mobility themselves and/or the recruitment and support of faculty. This will be an interactive session involving open discussions and presentations where participants will be encouraged to share their experiences of what it means to be an academic in the international marketplace.
