A few weeks ago, you received a save-the-date announcement for a course that will feature Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke at the George Washington University School of Business. Dr. Bernanke will teach the first four lectures of a course on the Federal Reserve System and its place in society. The second half of the course will be about issues pertaining to the Constitutionality of the Fed; its independence from the banking sector and from the political sector; its regional work throughout the U.S.; consumer literacy and protection in the financial system; issues pertaining to China and to Europe; and finally from a management perspective, how business in general and central banking in particular might adopt practices that enhance trust in the marketplace and even contribute to sustainable peace around the world. The lead professor for the class is Timothy Fort, Lindner-Gambal Professor of Business Ethics and Executive Director of the Institute for Corporate Responsibility.
