In a field survey research project, we're discussing using two languages simultaneously on each item in the survey. I've done a brief literature search and I'm either using inadequate search arguments or there are no studies. What we've been asked is to use, for example, English and Arabic languages on each of the items. Any thoughts, advice, or references?
    Thanks,
    Romie

I have seen surveys that have given respondents the choice, but don't recall a survey offering both within the same survey. If you recall, I argued successfully that in India the use of English for surveys in global businesses would be appropriate (but not in a domestic context where the local dialect was generally used). The short answer would be the use of either English or Arabic would be dependent on the type industry and it's context, but to use both IMO could possibly confound the results.  Unless of course your research question is to compare the two versions!

    Dear Rommie,
I believe that Dr. Al-Rajhi may have provided his respondents the option of an English version of the Arabic questionnaire he employed (which itself was reworked from English: see Al-Rajhi, Bartlett & Altman, Cross-Cultural Management, 2013).
I am copying him into the correspondence so he could advise you directly when he have a chance to do so.
    Best regards

    hi,
Sorry for the late comment. If you use two languages, you might ever if the answers are not influenced by the kanguage bias...
