PDW Description
How do we develop the cross-cultural competence of leaders, managers, and employees so that they may lead and run today’s and tomorrow’s organizations? How do we effectively teach and research the complex subjects of cross-cultural awareness and competence? Forces such as globalization, migration, virtualization and technology are flattening the globe and connecting people, teams, organizations, and societies across cultures. They are increasing the need for leaders and managers to be culturally-aware and capable for firms to be competitive, cooperative, and sustainable. Cross-cultural competence is a highly-complex topic, and requires that people gain cross-cultural experience, become culturally-aware, learn cultural skills, define and apply cultural values, and develop an ongoing set of cultural practices.
In this innovative and multi-faceted workshop, we create an experiential learning environment where participants practice effective methods for teaching, learning, and researching cross-cultural competency. We present a unique and emerging model of cross-cultural competency and its scholarly foundations. We use multimedia (music and video) along with an expert panel, individual reflection, group dialogue, and workshop experiences to engage teacher/educators, academicians, and reflective organizational practitioners (who work with cross-cultural managers in cross-cultural environments) in order to achieve the following goals:
1) To become more cross-culturally aware on a personal basis
2) To practice cross-cultural capabilities with a culturally-diverse group of participants
3) To learn effective teaching/learning methods
4) To propel the field along a new trajectory of teaching/learning, scholarship, and practice
