Dear Colleagues,
We invite you to join us at the upcoming PDW "State Capitalism 2.0: Implications for International Business and Corporate Governance." In this PDW, we attract attention to a model of market capitalism in which the state itself is an important market player. The term "state capitalism" is used to refer primarily to state-owned enterprises competing with privately-owned companies on an unlevel playing field. More recently, though, state capitalism has evolved and now includes more sophisticated and subtle means of state involvement, which we call "state capitalism 2.0." We explore common forms in which this new state capitalism has manifested itself in both developed and emerging economies, and detail implications for international business and corporate governance research in terms of both theory building and empirical studies. We consider several emerging streams of research on state capitalism including sovereign wealth funds, state-owned MNCs, state-business networks, and the evolution of state control in countries with varied experience of state capitalism. With this workshop, we aim to help international business and corporate governance scholars further develop their research agendas on state capitalism.
NO pre-registration is required. We look forward to seeing you at this PDW!
