Conference theme: “Management in a Digital World”, Decisions, Production, Communication. A Meeting to Debate Management Challenges in the Digital Age

    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________
In recent decades, the passage from analogue to digital (as both a ‘qualifying’ process and a form of technology) has assumed diffusive, replicative and integrative qualities. These qualities permeate any decisional, productive and communicative context involving individuals, firms, institutions and the relationships between these entities. The phenomenon of digitalization has also had a profound effect on economies and resulted in a reconfiguration of learning, formation, production, consumption, identification and memory processes along paths that have presently only been partially defined or are yet to be completely traced. These transformational processes offer possible contexts for the creation of ‘value’. Along with public institutions, private firms can (and must) become direct protagonists and/or co-protagonists in the course of the transition towards a complete digital revolution. The analytical management perspective of scholars provides a fertile ground for researching the effect of digitalization on the complex unfolding of interactions among subject-systems and between firms and the environment. Digitalization should not evoke an abstract world of virtual relationships in which physicality and contextual relationships are inconsequential. The digital world should also be interpreted either as an opportunity to create value or a marginalizing threat for real relationships and firms that do not grasp its sense and evolution. The complex development of the effects of digitalization require that multiple visions must be correctly applied to understand the value that it represents to countries, economies, firms and individuals. Theoretical contributions, empirical analyses, experiences and reflections developed from the perspective of management studies and aimed at evaluating the ability of the digital context to generate value constitute the main focus of the conference.
