    Dear Colleagues,

    We are currently preparing a proposal for a Presenter Symposium entitled "Sexual Harassment in the workplace: Exploring global perspectives" (refer to abstract below)

    With that in mind, we would like to invite you to submit a paper to this symposium. If interested, please let us know by sending an email to fa16@aub.edu.lb  expressing your interest before December 5th .

    Other deadlines to keep in mind:

    ·         December 9th: Initial short abstract

    ·         December 20th : Detailed abstract (two-to-five page synopsis of your paper as per AOM guidelines)

    ·         January 4th: Revised detailed abstract incorporating reviewer feedback

    ·         January 10th: Symposium submission by organizers

    ·         End of March: Notification of acceptance of the symposium by AOM

    ·         July 3rd:  Paper to be emailed to fa16@aub.edu.lb  to allow time for the symposium discussant to read before the conference.

    ABSTRACT

    In this symposium, we aim to capture the cultural, sociopolitical, and structural systems and power dynamics underlying discussions, policies and legislation around sexual harassment in various national contexts. We adopt a feminist standpoint situating sexual harassment within broader patterns of discrimination, power, and privilege, linking harassment to sex-based inequality (MacKinnon 1979).

    Transnational discourses on sexual harassment are all rooted in the western literature (Castañeda, 1992; Nesiah, 1993; Zippel, 2004) and therefore we hope that this symposium will allow for voices from inside as well as outside the mainstream. Recent discussions around sexual harassment demonstrate that such concepts might not necessarily fare well across space and place (Adikaram, 2014)  and therefore our aim is to allow for the documentation of indigenous and endogenous reflections from within the local (see Jackson, 2014).
