The Liability of Foreignness of International Studies:
Publishing in Premier Management Journals

The multinational enterprise has become a dominant structure in the world economy. Several prominent scholars have examined the problems and prospects of research in international business (Caves, 1998; Doktor, Tung & von Glinow, 1991). Some scholars have suggested that "international" is nothing more than a context. These comments suggest that international research at the level of the country, firm, team, affiliate, or individual, faces a stigma in the eyes of some management journal gatekeepers, a form of liability of foreignness. An important question resonates with many scholars, "Why do some international studies get rejected and others get accepted at top tier management journals?" The proposed panel seeks to shed some light on this question and perhaps provide some guidance.
If you have any questions, please contact Stewart R. Miller (PDW Co-Organizer & Facilitator) at stewart.miller@utsa.edu for more details. See you in Montreal!
