Description of duties, responsibilities and qualifications:
The Department of Management invites applications for the position of department chair beginning July 1, 2009. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in one of the management areas (see website for areas represented: http://www.business.appstate.edu/management/) and the ability to meet department standards for appointment with tenure.
The Chair provides leadership to a department with over 20 full-time faculty and a number of programs/concentrations, both on and off campus, in pursuing the College of Business mission of excellence in scholarship, teaching, and service. In addition to departmental undergraduate programs, the chair is responsible for coordinating with the College of Business MBA program and a joint I/O-HRM graduate program with the Department of Psychology. Responsibilities include an active program of scholarship, student advisement, and participation in service activities. The standard teaching load for a chair is 3 hours per semester assuming an active research program.
Appalachian State University is a member institution of the sixteen-campus University of North Carolina System. Located in Boone, the university has approximately 15,000 students, primarily in bachelors and masters programs.

Official transcripts of all graduate level work, although not required with the application, will be required prior to appointment. Formal review of completed applications will begin January 2, 2009 and will continue until the position is filled.
