    APOLOGIES FOR CROSS-POSTING

    Dear All:

We invite you to join the conversation at our AoM caucus in Montreal entitled, "DIASPORA INVESTMENT & ENTREPRENEURSHIP: THE ROLE OF PEOPLE, THEIR MOVEMENTS, AND CAPITAL IN THE INTERNATIONAL ECONOMY." Program Session #: 593 |Scheduled: Monday, Aug 9 2010 8:00AM - 9:30AM at Le Palais Des Congres in 521C.

The caucus is designed to be a teaser and precursor to the upcoming 12th Annual International Business Research Forum organized by the Fox School at Temple University in 2011 and an accompanying Special Issue of the Journal of International Management, guest edited by caucus organizers. The call for papers for this conference and special issue are attached.

Diasporas are groups of emigrants who "demonstrate a strong link with their migration history and a sense of co-ethnicity with others of a similar background" (Cohen 1997, p. IX).  Diaspora investors/entrepreneurs often "dare to care," as their business activities in their countries of origin often are driven at least in part by altruistic desires to positively contribute to the development of their homelands.

In this caucus we aim to develop a network of scholars interested in or currently engaged in research in this area.  In the caucus we will disseminate materials related to teaching and research on this topic.   Topics to be discussed include the:

    - Cultural values, motivations, and identity of diaspora investors and entrepreneurs,

    - Transnational management and operational processes of many diaspora investors and entrepreneurs,

    - Roles diasporans often play within MNCs during the firm's foreign investment decision-making process,

    - Specific challenges and opportunities associated with diaspora investment and entrepreneurship,

    - Potential roles for government and NGOs to promote and facilitate diaspora investment and entrepreneurship, and

    - Impact of diaspora investment and entrepreneurship (e.g., social, economic, and other spillover effects)

We look forward to seeing you in Montreal!

    Best regards,
