Many scholars wonder if they are really making an impact. While a seemingly important question, this might not be the right one to ask ourselves. Indeed, rather than asking "am I making an impact?," a better question might be "how can I make a greater impact?" The goal of the session is to generate a rich dialogue on how academy members can increase the practical impact of their work while maintaining academic relevance. To bring these ideas alive, the focus of the panelists' discussion will be on why and how they are pursuing an agenda geared toward changing the world. Each presenter has a different perspective and unique insights on this topic. Their goal, while seemingly audacious, provides an excellent platform for exploring how academics can have a substantial impact in addition to publishing in top-tier journals and educating their students in the classroom.
This session is designed to allow the four presenters to discuss their experiences on this journey and then engage each other in a round table discussion. This will be followed by a broader discussion with attendees.
To help ensure relevance to the session attendees, the presenters will explore such questions as:
· How can researchers have an impact on a global scale?
· What kind of research makes a difference?
· Where are the opportunities and how do I get started?
· What are the impediments and how can they be overcome?
· How can you maximize the influence of your work?
Attend this session and examine how scholars can make a greater impact in the work they do and perhaps even change the world in the process.
