Ongoing Special Section: "The State of the Art in International Management"
The aim of this special section is to describe the state of the art in
international management. Emphasis will be placed on the theories that
support research in this area. To improve research quality, the focus is
usually on method and empirical practices, although some methodological
problems derive from the characteristics of the area itself and the
theory that supports experiments.
This special section is devoted to analysing, classifying and studying
developments in the predominant theoretical frameworks in international
management. The focus is on addressing the main issues of international
management (why and how companies internationalise). Are these
perspectives linked to special methods (quantitative vs. qualitative)?
Do discrepancies in the main issues in this area depend on methodology
and theory?
This special section targets international management scholars.
Suitable topics include, but are not limited, to the following:
• Review of status and advances in international management theories
• Literature classification and trend analysis
• Review of emerging complementary theoretical frameworks in
international management
• How other social science theories influence and interact with
international management
• Cross-cultural management
• Current dominant methods (qualitative vs. quantitative); levels of
analysis and their relationships with the theoretical framework
• New criticisms of international management; values, principles and
prejudices underlying international management theories
• The role of theory in the development of the research agenda
• Meta-analyses of the most relevant problems addressed by researchers
