Dear Colleagues:
We hope that you can join us at the Academy of Management Annual Conference for the following PDW:
Multiple Corporate Development Modes: Choice, Intertemporal Relationships, and Performance
Corporate Development Modes
Program Session #: 332 | Submission: 14528 | Sponsor(s): (BPS, OMT)
Scheduled: Saturday, Aug 7 2010 3:00PM - 6:00PM
at Le Palais Des Congres in 513B
The two main purposes of this highly interactive and innovative session are: 1. To (a) analyze the simultaneous and intertemporal relationships between multiple modes of corporate development, (b) discuss the performance implications of firms' choice between different modes and their sequencing, and (c) generate a research agenda. 2. To continue building and strengthening the community of scholars (junior and senior) engaged in corporate strategy and development research, with the potential of forging collaborative research connections. Existing research on corporate development modes has mostly focused on the choice and complementarities among external modes such as alliances/joint ventures and M&As, yet managers often have a fuller palette of corporate development means at their disposal, such as internal development, corporate venture capital, minority acquisitions, etc. We also know relatively little about the intertemporal relationship between the various internal and external development modes to develop a given business, yet increasing research suggests that the temporal aspect of corporate development is important to study. Finally, we believe that significant research opportunities lie in investigating the performance implications of firms' choice between multiple corporate development modes, as well as of their sequencing. This initiative results from an ongoing dialogue among researchers in the field at several conferences including the 2006 and 2008 AOM PDWs on M&A research, and the 2009 AOM PDW on alliances and M&As. The panelists/facilitators are experts in the area including:
· Xavier Castañer; University of Lausanne
· Xavier Martin; Tilburg University
· Roberto Ragozzino; University of Texas at Dallas
· Tony Tong; University of Colorado
· Edward Zajac; Northwestern University
