    Dear Colleague,

You are kindly invited to participate in the professional development workshop titled "Writing Better Theory", sponsored by the BPS and IM divisions. The workshop will take place at Anaheim Convention Center in 202B, and is scheduled for Friday, Aug 5 2016 8:00AM - 10:00AM. No registration is needed.

For many researchers, a frustrating component of publishing is how to write good theory, particularly when facing the frequently cited comment from reviewers that the paper "lacks a theoretical contribution". The purpose of this PDW is to present the audience with the successful experiences and valuable insights on writing good theory by three prominent scholars (Professors Tailan Chi, Alvaro Cuervo-Cazurra, and Lorraine Eden). The fourth distinguished speaker Professor Yadong Luo cannot make it to the conference but is willing to answer any questions via emails. This PDW also offers the opportunity to interact with these scholars to possibly resolve participants' individual challenges in developing and publishing their research. We will start with following four general questions:

    1. As an editor/author, what's your definition of "strong theoretical contribution"? What specific criteria do you use to evaluate whether a paper makes strong theoretical contributions?
    2. What are the typical pitfalls in developing theory, from your own research experiences and/or editorial experiences?
    3. Is there a process you would recommend to others in developing better theory? Any examples you would recommend?
    4. What are your recommendations for utilizing more than one theoretical perspective in a paper? How do you integrate theories/ write interdisciplinary contributions?

Our interactive workshop will take into consideration questions raised by participants and aim to deliver the most valuable/specific information for attendees.

BONUS:  The panelist will offer direct feedback on how to improve the theory for six papers.  If you are interested, please email Session Chair Stephanie Lu Wang (slwang@indiana.edu) your full paper in Word document. First come, first serve.

Thank you for reading, and we look forward to seeing you in Anaheim!

    Very best,

    Stephanie
